Price vs. Cost in Test Prep Tutoring: Why Experience Matters

Meme of René the frog with sad expression and text "I’m sat," humorously expressing the struggle of preparing for the SAT.

When it comes to tutoring, price and cost aren’t always the same. While some tutors charge less, others are more expensive—and there’s often a reason for that difference. For example, hiring a medical student as a tutor may cost less upfront, but how secure will you feel about the outcome?

With over 30 years of teaching experience, multiple teaching awards, and seven years of full-time test prep tutoring, I bring more than just academic knowledge. My students quickly become the best versions of themselves as test-takers. With high scores on the MCAT, many of them don’t just get into their desired programs—they also qualify for significant scholarships.

So, what’s the real cost of hiring a less experienced tutor? A medical student may have a great MCAT score but may lack the expertise and teaching methods to make that knowledge accessible. This could mean the difference between gaining acceptance to a competitive medical school versus another option—or even between earning an M.D. versus a D.O. degree.

Hiring a professional tutor is an investment in your future. Think of it as a return on investment. With the right support, your educational journey can lead to more choices, better scholarships, and ultimately, a stronger foundation for success. Keep your eyes on the prize—your future success.
